On Being a Counsellor

The heart of Trish’s care philosophy is warm, positive, client-centered engagement from a strengths-based perspective. The view is to capacity building within the context of a client’s identified community or family network. As Trish engages with a client, she sees this as both a profound trust and a deep privilege. Her priority and passion is to accompany clients through the process holding them safe as they endeavor to go deeper in pursuit of insight and meaningful change.

Counselling & Art Therapy Background

Trish’s professional career includes effective office administration in non-profit business and educational contexts coupled with significant experience in the fields of art therapy and conflict management. She attributes her success in these areas of practice over the past 20 years to strong skills in needs-assessment, empathetic listening, assertive communication, creative and practical problem solving driven by warm and genuine care to facilitate the success of those around her. Her art therapy practice has primarily been focused in the public and alternate school systems supporting children and youth. She has also worked extensively with adults in mental health and medical settings in the Vancouver downtown eastside.

Trish as a Person

For Trish, personal art-making is very important as a commitment to self-care, a mode of self-expression and a means of giving pleasure to others. She enjoys painting, sketching, crafting, sculpting and photography, doing various kinds of special projects and private and institutional commissions. She finds much inspiration from nature, often working natural materials into her artwork. Trish has lived abroad and has travelled extensively throughout the world. She enjoys walking and yoga and loves regular quality time with friends and family.
